The Masters Tournament has kicked off. Tiger Woods opened the tournament on Thursday, April 5 with a solid even-par 72 in Round 1, his first official win in more than two years. Woods has won 14 professional major tournaments over the course of his career, including 4 Masters Tournaments. A few hours before the opening round on Thursday, Woods posted on Twitter that he was, “Feeling ready.” Will the 76th Masters be the opportunity for Woods’ 5th green jacket?

The Masters is held each year at the same location, the Augusta National Golf Club, a private golf club in the Augusta, Georgia. The Masters was started by Clifford Roberts and Bobby Jones. Jones designed Augusta with course architect Alister MacKenzie. The Masters was initially called the “Augusta National Invitational” Tournament.

The Masters is the first official major golf championship of the year. Since 1940, it has been played so that the final round is on second Sunday of April.

This year, while Woods is aiming for his fifth Masters win, Phil Mickelson is looking for his fourth, and Rory McIlroy his first.

The winners of the last 10 Masters winners are: Charl Schwartzel, Phil Mickelson, Angel Cabrera, Trevor Immelman, Zach Johnson, Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Mickelson, Mike Weir, and Woods.
